Success Story- Lead Dental Assistant

Larae Bowers first learned about Aspen Dental through her dental assisting program at Northeast Iowa Community College. While doing an internship with Aspen at the office in Dubuque, IA she fell in love with the model and working with practice owner Dr. Lacey McDevitt.

After graduating from dental assistant school she spent a year working in a Community Health Center before joining Aspen Dental full time in Coralville, Iowa in 2011. Larae loved the fast paced environment in the office and the responsibility of maintaining supply inventory and ensuring a smooth work environment for the dentist, patient and team.

Today, Larae is the lead dental assistant at the practice in Dubuque where she completed her internship with Dr. McDevitt. As a lead dental assistant, she’s responsible for training other dental assistants, maintaining an organized patient schedule flow, ensuring all medications are up to date and the office is following all Iowa Dental Board protocols and procedures. She’s also able to assist the oral surgeon when he’s working on big cases in the office such as wisdom teeth extractions.

“I love working with patients and helping them overcome their fear of the dentist."

“I love working with patients and helping them overcome their fear of the dentist,” Larae said. “It’s so rewarding to see a big smile on their face after treatment is completed.”

Larae loves working with Aspen Dental because of the ample opportunities available.

“You meet all kinds of people from other offices and locations across the country. There are so many opportunities to advance and Aspen really knows how to engage well with employees. In 2017 I was able to participate in one of Aspen’s Overseas Outreach programs and traveled to Peru for a week with 12 other Aspen team members to provide free care to patients there. It fulfilled a huge dream of mine and I made great friendships through that experience.”
