Aspen Dental Management, Inc. (ADMI) is a highly successful, national dental services organization. ADMI provides non-clinical business support services to more than 590 Aspen Dental-branded dental offices, located in 34 US states. Each Aspen location is owned and operated by a licensed, independent dentist. The ADMI headquarters location is in East Syracuse, NY. As a reflection of our current needs and planned growth we are very pleased to offer an opportunity to join our Finance team as a Controller.


The Controller will be responsible for managing and directing all of the day-to-day accounting activities.  This person will be responsible for accurate and timely financial information and insure compliance with all corporate, governmental, accounting, and regulatory standards.  Key success factors for this position are the ability to continuously redesign, improve and maintain financial close processes to support planned growth and increased complexity.  This position will provide tremendous opportunities in a growing and dynamic industry.

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the accounting functions, including month-end close, account reconciliations, and key financial close controls in accordance with due dates and deadlines.
  • Maintain and manage accounting policies, principles, and procedures that comply with U.S. GAAP and Company selected accounting policies.  
  • Continuously develop, implement, and maintain financial systems and internal controls.
  • Perform financial controls assessment for key processes and make improvements and efficiencies.
  • Manage and maintain all internal controls documentation and accounting manuals, and ongoing compliance.  
  • Lead the development and evaluation of Company accounting policies by monitoring the activities of all accounting standard setting bodies, including FASB, and evaluating the accounting and reporting impact of new standards, including development of new accounting policies and coordination of adoption of accounting standards.
  • Prepare accounting memos documenting complex transactions for review by VP Finance and external auditors.
  • Coordinate and manage the external audits in conjunction with external Big 4 auditors to ensure successful completion, including scheduling and management of key tasks and open items to ensure timely completion.
  • Set goals for the work group, manage execution and measure results.
  • Build effective teams through hiring and evaluation, develop organization capacity and structure, and provide coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities.
  • Continuously improve the accounting function, including team development, resource allocation, professional development, and engagement.
  • Partner with the business to accurately assess the accounting impact and treatment for projects and other transactions.
  • Lead with a continuous improvement mindset while considering all customers and stakeholders of financial information.
  • Develop, maintain, and present department metrics and scorecards to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of accounting operations.
  • Lead or assist in supporting due diligence for recapitalizations or major key transactions.  
Minimum Education and Experience
  • BA/BS Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Blend of Public Accounting experience and private Financial Reporting experience
  • Ten+ (10) years of professional experience
  • Experience managing a large accounting group with direct and indirect reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications, proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, ability to interact with senior management and present ideas in a concise and digestible manner


It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:


  • Proven examples of designing or redesigning significant accounting processes that comply with U.S. GAAP
  • Experience with various accounting standards such business combinations, revenue recognition, leases, stock compensation, consolidation, and fair value
  • Experience leading or assisting with ERP system implementations
  • Experience with acquisition integrations
  • MBA Finance
